Since being in Shanghai with Darren Kuropatwa who is a real images person, I have been reinspired to use the Instagram app on my phone to take and share photos. Instagram allows you to apply a range of filters/effects to your images that really makes them look amazing sometimes. Instagram is very easy to use and lets you post your images straight to Flickr, Twitter, Facebook, email and others.
Anyway, yesterday on my way to work (I walk there, it takes me 5 minutes) as I was walking past the lake at the end of my street, I saw a pelican, aimed my phone and took this picture, asking who else got to walk past a pelican on their way to work?!
Darren commented on the photo “Not me, take more pics!” and so this morning I did. I took a series of pics, not of pelicans, but of my walk to work. Here it is:
1. Standing out the front of my house looking left towards the lake:
2. Crossing the road (about two houses up) – used different filter on this one
3. Once across the road, then looking left to the duck viewing platform and our favourite ball throwing spot:
4, Looking right to the back of the shops and the path to school:
5. Around the bend:
6. The back of the shops:
7. Then behind the shops and across the road is school:
8. Then my classroom:
Total travel time = 5 minutes on foot.
So please consider sharing, what does your journey to work look like?

I’ll take this to mean I’m tagged. Just published my pics on Instagram, blog post follow up coming soon.
Yes, consider yourself tagged! Of course, should have tagged some people in the post. Might do that now…:-)
Great pics by the way!
Oi! Inspired by your journey to work so here’s mine. http://andrews365pics.posterous.com/my-journey-to-uni
Great idea! I’m going to try ir with my students. So I’m with you. Will post the link later as today I’m working from home.
Best wishes from Moscow!
Hi Jess, I love this idea. As Tatyana says, I think it is a great idea to give to students and compare globally. Here is my journey to work! Took a while to do as my camera battery went flat. Anne (aka The Farmers Wife!)
Oops! Forgot the link to my blog post. http://murcha.wordpress.com/2011/09/22/visualizing-my-journey-to-school/
Great work Jess – I love #5 especially – what a lovely walk to work you have! I haven’t posted mine yet, but as soon as I do I will leave another message here. Marg and I were just talking about the lunchbox project, “food for a week around the world” series of photos (Time magazine) and this fits in perfectly. Giving students opportunities to put themselves in someone else’s shoes to develop empathy. Looking forward to seeing you over the holidays
I just love this. I came across your post through reference by Anne Mirtschin in her blog. I live in Beijing and so am looking at all of the great things I see on the way to school. Will take me a few days to get it all together but am making it a project. Love the use of filters. I have not used Instagram yet but will certainly investigate.
thanks for the inspiration and focus
