My 2008 Web 2.0 / ICT Resolutions

My fabulous colleague, Anne Mirtschin of On an e-Journey With Generation Y, posted a list of her Web 2.0 resolutions for 2008. I was inspired by hers to write my own. So here I go:

IN MY CLASSROOM

  • to use my iPod and the school’s set of video iPods regularly in my classroom.
  • to have many more collaborative projects. It would be great to have one project for nearly every year level I teach so that it becomes an integral part of their work, not just a special event every now and again. I’m going to blog about some collaborative project ideas I’ve got just before school goes back. I’m going to mull over them for the next couple of weeks and would love to get some feedback later.
  • to get my students blogging on technoChinese about what they are learning as well as getting them to blog on their own, which is something I’ll be working on with Anne.
  • to make regular podcasts of my lessons for my students to take home and review
  • to become much more knowledgable about using the SMART Board I have in my classroom

IN MY PERSONAL WEB 2.0 WORLD

  • to not join too many more networks! One can only do so much.
  • to be more active on the networks I am already a part of…which by it’s nature will mean that I…
  • strengthen some of the fabulous relationships I have made with all these fabulous communicative and collaborative technologies I have at my fingertips! You should see me trying to keep up with all the Twitter conversations that are happening at the moment!
  • comment on the blogs I read more often
  • to write more and more regularly here on technoLOTE and figure out the best ways to grow my audience

There are probably more, but that might have to do for the moment! I will also aim to check this post regularly to see how I’m going and report back on my goals in December. Maybe this can be my official Professional Development document!

  • Have you thought about trying to get the students to record themselves? I know the people teaching ESL find that it helps the learners identify their own strengths and weakness. For podcasting I really like the way Richard Meagher does his podcasts using Camtasia — not the same subject area but his podcasts are worth a look to see what he does (http://meaghersclasses.podomatic.com/). Also Rosa’s work is interesting (http://rosaspodcast.blogspot.com/) — she has worksheets her students have to complete based on listening to the audio podcasts.

In terms of commenting on blogs I use co-mment to manage the comments on other people’s blogs. I then subscribe to my feed from Co-mment into Google Reader.

  • Sorry I pressed Submit comment too soon without finishing - here is my advice on being a more effective blogger. My best experience was doing the 31 Day Blogging Challenge. Good luck. I look forward to watching your progress with your goals.

    Sue,

To answer your question, yes I have played around a bit with recording my students voices. I have used Audacity and last year I put a lot of them up on the http://www.technolote.com/technoChinese blog I have for my kids. I got a great response from a few parents about the recordings and will do heaps more of them and some podcasts this year. I’ve taken them off for the moment as there were too many slowing the site down but will blog about them when I get more up and running.

I read your advice on being a more effective blogger and I’m just now looking at your blogging tips page. I know of the 31 day challenge and am going to look into that too. Oh, and I signed up for co-mment too. Thanks for taking the time to leave your thoughts and tips! I really appreciate it.

  • Hey, Jess you are very kind. As you can see I am catching up on my google reader tonight and marked a lot of things as read. So will try and keep a bit more up to date myself. I thank you for all the help you have given me with all my technical questions (and yes, I have more for you tomorrow!!!) and it is great being able to work with you. Anyway you have some great goals and all the best at achieving them. Look forward to working with you on some of them. Thanks, Jess
