Me, a SMART Board and some language teaching: A Commitment

room-14-002.jpg

April is Interactive Whiteboard Month on technoLOTE! I have a SMART Board in my classroom and am determined to make much better use of it than I do. (Yep, the picture above is my classroom). So, I am dragging you all along on my ‘Improvement of SMART Board use’ journey. I am committing myself to the following:

  • Using the SMART Board in at least two new ways each week.
  • Posting a ‘Weekly Whiteboard Workout’ post on Wednesdays that shows what I’ve done.
  • Making sure I am not the main person using the SMART Board. The kids love it, so I’m going to hand it over to them as much as possible.
  • Finding some great IWB resources to share

This commitment starts this week with my planning for Term 2 (except for the Wednesday Whiteboard Workout posting that will start next week).

I will keep you updated on my progress and my development as a SMART Board user. I might even get around to interviewing some teachers on how they use IWBs in their language classrooms. Of course, this is not the only thing that I will be writing about on technoLOTE, so stay tuned for heaps of other fabulous stuff.

Have you got an interactive whiteboard? Wanna take up the commitment challenge?

  • Hi Jess

What a brilliant idea! We have just moved into a new school with brilliant ICT facilities: brand new IWB in each Languages classroom.
I will try to live up to your challenge! For resources, I have lots on my delicious, do check them out (IWB tag). That is the first part of my contribution.
I look forward to reading your IWB posts.

  • Hi Jess
I have a drastically under-used IWB in my room and need to “shake things up a bit”. I shall definitely try to meet your challenge. I look forward to a busy and interactive term after our “Easter Break”!

  • I have been using IWB actively for the last three years. I still need to learn a lot as its use has developed so much. I am ready to take your challenge. Still need to send you my classroom photos. Have changed camera and need to download the photos.

  • What is a smart board? I feel lucky to have chalk and a regular board in my room. What do I have to do to get a boar that is smart?

  • Hi Jess and fellow smartboard users,
I have had my smart board up for less than a month and use it just like a normal whiteboard. Last week even forgot I had to use the correct smartboard pens, till the kids yelled out,”Miss Wyatt you using a whiteboard marker not the smartboard ones!” Thank goodness it wiped off quickly. At present I am starting to build up some resources but a great one the kids love is ghostblasters which you can also play on a normal computer with a mouse. Great for challenges with two students working together. Google Earth also works well on a smartboard. Maybe find out more about the places where visitors to your blog come from. Another site the kids loved was Cyberquoll the Aussie government site regarding internet safety which includes cartoons for the students to watch.
